Goldikova Will Win This Race

Saturday is Goldikova's final prep for the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Longchamp.  Is her competition getting easier as we get closer to the race? Is Goldikova's imposing presence causing her competition to fold their hand before the ante?  The entire B.C. Mile blog could be reduced to five words: “Goldikova will win this race."

It appears the number two & three threats to Goldikova will not be entered in the B.C. Mile.   Last weeks Queen Elizabeth II stakes winner Rip Van Winkle, is heading to the B.C. classic Ventura, winner of the other "Win and You Are In" race, the Woodbine Mile, is defending her B.C. Filly & Mare Sprint title.  This leaves Justenuffhumor  who we will get a closer look next week in Keeneland's Shadwell mile.  I believe he is the only horse that could provide intrigue as he has shown considerable potential while on an undefeated run.

This week we have Belmont Park’s Kelso Mile.   It is like an allowance race decided to dress up as a stakes race for Halloween.  Unfortunately, this field has more tricks than treats.    The entire five horse field has the grand total of two wins at one mile with one of those wins in a maiden race the other an allowance.  Yield Bogey has been thumped repeatedly in allowance races.  Yorktown labored to beat a N2X allowance at Monmouth.  Both Ready's Echo and Le Grand Cru are looking for their initial turf wins.  Court Vision is an obvious 4-5 here and should win this for fun even though he has been going longer than one mile for the past two years.  The leading B.C Mile Prep in New York will at best produce a 40-1 chance if the connections chooses to enter the B.C. Mile.

Ventura is being pointed to the Filly & Mare Sprint. It is too bad that she will not be in the B.C. Mile as she would have been one of the top contenders. A match-up between Goldikova and Ventura would have been exciting. Unfortunately she will be in another race. This is the downside of all the new B.C. races.
