Funny Cide's Derby win voted top 'Moment' of the Year

The 2003 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) victory by Funny Cide was voted the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Moment of the Year, officials said. It was one of 10 "moments" on the ballot.

Funny Cide's connections will be honored at the Eclipse Awards dinner Jan. 26 in Holly wood, Fla., with the "NTRA Moment of the Year" award. Balloting was conducted at ntra.com.

Funny Cide's winning moment garnered 33% of the total votes. The Johar/High Chaparral dead heat in the John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) came in second with 22% of the votes. The opening of the movie "Seabiscuit" checked in third with 9% of all ballots cast.

- Pleasantly Perfect captures the Breeders' Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge (gr. I) to give trainer Richard Mandella an incredible fourth Breeders' Cup winner of the day.

- Jockey Jerry Bailey wins three graded stakes in one day at Aqueduct and breaks Mike Smith's 10-year-old record for most stakes victories in one year.
