After two races, both at Hawthorne, My Time to Star looks little like a run-of-the-mill Illinois-bred. And next month in Louisiana, he may get a chance to drive home that point.
My Time to Star followed up on a facile debut victory last month in Chicago with an overpowering win last Saturday in the Sun Power Stakes for Illinois-bred 2-year-olds. A Five Star Day colt purchased at auction this past April by Bill Heiligbrodt and based in Kentucky with trainer , My Time to Star pressed the pace from an inside draw in the Sun Power, took over turning for home, and drew away for a seven-length victory. His six-furlong time of 1:10.65 compared quite favorably to the 1:10.03 turned in a half-hour later by older gelding Mighty Rule, another sharp stakes winner.
"We going to try open company, and we're actually thinking about the Delta Jackpot," Romans said Tuesday.
My Time to Star has returned to Romans barn in Kentucky but will be among the first group of horses Romans ships to Fair Grounds later this month. From there, it would be an easy ship to the $750,000 Jackpot on Dec. 4 at Delta. And Romans said he's confident that speedy My Time to Star will be able to at least get a middle distance.
"He has no problems sitting behind horses," Romans said. "I don't see any reason for him not to go long."
