Beat The Handicapper: Official Rules

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING AGE AND ELIGIBILITY:

You must be at least 18 years of age to play "Beat the Handicapper" and win cash prizes.  Additionally, you must be at least 21 years of age to qualify for the National Handicapping Championship.  Players that are under 21 years of age that qualify for the NHC will relinquish their spot to the next eligible player.

Please also note that in order to receive prizes, a physical mailing address for winning players MUST be present in the E-Club profile of each player.  Winning entries not containing physical addresses will be forfeited and awarded to the next player that has provided a physical address.

CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.  On a weekly basis, players will make $50 worth of wagers among the following wager types: Win, Place, Show, Exacta and Trifecta.  See How to Play section for further information on how to place bets and what bet types are available.  All wagers are mythical and winnings reported for the purposes of a score only.  IMPORTANT NOTE: OF YOUR $50 CONTEST WAGERING FUNDS, ONLY $20 MAY BE SPENT ON EXOTICS (EXACTAS AND TRIFECTAS).

2.  IMPORTANT: Contest wagering closes 5 minutes prior to the official post time for the contest race. Closing times of races WILL NOT CHANGE unless there is a major disruption in the race schedule (e.g., delays due to severe weather).  It is important that you check the official post time of the selected race to ensure that your selections are made on time.  REPEAT: Closing times of contest races are 5 minutes prior to the official scheduled post times of the races and WILL NOT CHANGE due to minor delays.

3.  LATE SCRATCHES: In the event of a late scratch (i.e. at the gate), users may change selections provided selections have not yet closed for that given race. If selections have already closed, the selected horse will be replaced with the post-time favorite for that race, only for WIN, PLACE and SHOW wagers. Selections WILL NOT RE-OPEN after closing due to a late scratch.

All EXACTA and TRIFECTA wagers involving scratched horses will be voided and will not count for contest purposes.  Because of this, we recommend that you NOT make selections until after scratches for that given race have been posted (usually by 11am on the day of the selected race) and updated on the contest site.

4.  Coupled betting entries and mutuel fields will be regarded as a single selection.

5.  If there is a tie, either for the weekly contest or cumulative contest periods, the tiebreaker will be the highest mutuel payout (based on a $2 wager) achieved for that period.  If a tie still remains, winning contestants will be chosen at random from the list of eligible contestants.

6.  The decision of the NTRA, in all matters or disputes relating to the contest, is final.

7.  Scoring is determined based on actual track payouts, recorded in gross.

8. Users may enter only once per person, per valid e-mail address.  All entries submitted with duplicate e-mail addresses will be voided, as will multiple entries submitted under the same name but with different e-mail addresses.  Moreover, any entries made through an e-mail address that is determined not to be valid upon completion of the contest will be voided.  Proof of identity of winning entries must be provided.

General Rules

  • Winners are subject to all State and Federal Tax Requirements.  Contest is void where prohibited by law.
  • Players must place all mythical wagers personally.  No person shall directly or indirectly act as an intermediary, transmitter or agent in placing wagers for the Player, unless authorized by the NTRA.
  • In consideration of my participation in this Tournament, I do hereby irrevocably authorize Daily Racing Form and the NTRA or its licensees to print, publish, televise or otherwise distribute and use photographs, name or likeness of me without further compensation to me and without any further consent from me.
  • In addition, I declare that I am over 21 years of age, that I am not an employee of the NTRA, Breeders’ Cup, Daily Racing Form, Bally’s Las Vegas or any of their affiliated companies.
  • In addition to the cash prizes available, three players total will be sent to the National Handicapping Championship. The three qualifiers must be able to attend the National Championship on each day of the event.  If one of the top three finishers cannot attend the National Handicapping Championship, the next highest placing qualifier will earn a place. Depending on a particular situation, the NTRA may assign an alternate qualifier. Players agree to abide by these determinations.  The NTRA and/or its participating members ("Contest Entities") are not responsible for late, lost, damaged, misdirected, incorrectly addressed, incomplete, illegible, undeliverable or destroyed entries resulting from any reason, including: any hardware or software failures of any kind; lost or unavailable network connections; failed, incomplete or garbled computer or telephone transmissions; typographical or system errors; problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers or computer equipment; or technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at a Web site, or any combination thereof. Contest Entities also are not responsible for any injury or damage to entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from playing the Contest, downloading any material for the Contest or other telecommunications malfunctions that may limit an entrant’s ability to participate. Contest Entities may prohibit you from participating in the Contest or winning a prize, if in their sole discretion they determine you are attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair playing practices or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other players or Contest Entities representatives. If, for any reason, this Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or any other causes beyond the control of Contest Entities that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, Contest officials reserve the right at their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY A PARTICIPANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, NTRA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEY’S FEES) FROM ANY SUCH PARTICIPANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.
