Breeders' Cup Eligibility and Race Fees Eligibility and Race Fees in .pdf format Horses which were nominated to Breeders' Cup and are eligible for Breeders' Cup World Championships races must pay entry fees as indicated. Horses which were not nominated may be supplemented as indicated below. Horses may be pre-entered for more than two races by stating a first and second preference, but may only enter one race. When a horse is pre-entered for two races, the required pre-entry payment must be for the race of greatest value, regardless of whether it is the race of first preference. Horses which are nominated to Breeders' Cup or were EBF Eligible prior to 1996. The pre-entry fee is one percent of the purse and is due twelve (12) days prior to Breeders' Cup World Championships (October 23, 2006). An entry fee of two percent of the purse is required to pass the box at the time of entry closing (November 1, 2006) as designated by the host track. Horses which are not nominated to Breeders' Cup - For horses conceived during or after the 1995 breeding season, the supplemental fee is 9 percent of the guaranteed purse if the sire was nominated to the Breeders' Cup when the foal was conceived.
- For horses conceived prior to the 1995 breeding season the supplementary fee is 12 percent of the guaranteed purse if the sire was nominated to the Breeders' Cup program when the foal was conceived or 20 percent of the guaranteed purse if the sire and foal were not nominated.
- For horses sired by non-nominated stallions, the supplemental fee is 20 percent.
One-third (1/3) of the supplementary fee is due twelve (12) days prior to Breeders' Cup World Championships (October 23, 2006); the remaining two-thirds (2/3) is due to pass the box at time of entry closing (November 1, 2006) as designated by the host track. Note: Payment of supplemental pre-entry and entry fees will make a horse eligible only for a specific Breeders' Cup World Championship race. Payment of such fees will not make the horse eligible to other facets of the Breeders' Cup program. Refunds for Pre-Entry, Entry and Supplement Fees Pre-entry fees and entry fees for nominated horses or horses made eligible through the EBF are non-refundable except in the event of sickness or disability certified by the track or state veterinarian (or veterinary certification acceptable to Breeders' Cup Limited), or in the event a horse is prevented from starting by a decision of the Racing Directors/Secretaries Panel in order to limit the field of starters. The first 1/3 of the supplementary fee is non-refundable except in the event a horse is prevented from starting by a decision of the Racing Directors/Secretaries Panel in order to limit the field of starters. The remaining 2/3 of this fee is non-refundable except in the event of sickness or disability certified by the track or state veterinarian (or veterinary certification acceptable to Breeders' Cup Limited), or in the event a horse is prevented from starting by a decision of the Racing Directors/Secretaries Panel in order to limit the field of starters. Supplementary Fee Purse Enhancements All supplementary fees in excess of the pre-entry and entry fees (totaling 3% of the gross purse) will be added to the purse of the race in which the non-nominated horse pre-entered (race of first choice) or entered and distributed among the first five placing positions. Example: If a horse pays a 9% supplementary fee in a $1,000,000 race, $30,000 is allocated to pre-entry and entry fees. The remaining $60,000 of the supplementary fee is added to the purse and distributed among the first five placing positions. If a horse pays a 20% supplementary fee in a $1,000,000 race, $30,000 is allocated to pre-entry and entry fees. The remaining $170,000 is added to the purse and distributed among the first five placing positions. Non-refunded supplementary fees (less that portion allocated to pre-entry and entry fees) pertaining to supplementary entries which do not start a race will be added to the purse of the race which the horse pre-entered (race of first choice) or entered. Supplementary Fee Credit Non-nominated horses which are supplementary entries will receive a credit in an amount equal to the supplementary fees paid (less that portion allocated to pre-entry and/or entry fees) in all subsequent years in which the non-nominated horses are supplementary entries in Championship races. The credit may not be utilized to reduce that portion of supplementary fees allocated to pre-entry and/or entry fees but shall be a credit against the remaining portion of the supplementary fees, Non-nominated horses will not receive credits for supplementary fees paid prior to 1997. Example: A $90,000 supplementary fee paid to enter a $1,000,000 race will provide a $60,000 credit to that horse's supplementary fees in future Championship races, regardless of the ownership of the horse. If the horse should enter the $2,000,000 Breeders' Cup Turf or the $4,000,000 Breeders' Cup Classic in subsequent years, it will be required to pay the 9% supplementary fee minus the $60,000 credit. Once a horse has paid the highest supplementary fee, it may start in Championship races in subsequent years by paying only the pre-entry and entry fees totaling 3% of the gross purse. Note: The Supplementary Fee Credit is not retroactive and does not make the horse eligible to other facets of the Breeders' Cup program.
