Horses
Bred: W.S. Farish (Ky.)
Sire: Curlin
Dam: Palace Rumor, by Royal Anthem
Owned by Dogwood Stable, Palace Malice was sold for $200,000 in April of 2012 at the Keeneland Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale after going for $25,000 at the sales company's September Yearling Sale the previous year.
The colt broke his maiden in his second start by 3 1/2 lengths before taking a break for the rest of the year then returning in January 2013 to finish second in an optional claiming race. As one of Todd Pletcher's string of talented three-year-olds in 2013, Palace Malice stepped up to the Derby trail in the Risen Star Stakes (G2) where he finished third. After a horrible trip in the Louisiana Derby (G1) that resulted in a seventh place finish, he cemented his spot in the Kentucky Derby by finishing second in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1).
Palace Malice is from the first crop of champion Curlin and from the female family of multiple graded stakes winner Rail Trip.
