Name: Michelle Beadle
What I do for a living: I host a show on NBCSN called “The Crossover,” as well as working on Access Hollywood. I also throw various other programs when asked.
How and when I was introduced to Thoroughbred Racing: My first time at a track was at last year’s Breeders' Cup. Needless to say, it was an eye-opening experience.
My favorite racetrack: So far, I felt most comfortable at Pimlico. The fans, the setup: a laid-back, chill sporting event.
My favorite Thoroughbred racing event: Sticking with the Preakness (as I only have three races to choose from!)
Other sports/teams I follow: I’m a diehard Spurs fan. They are on their way to winning a 5th championship for Tim Duncan and Coach Pop. I also follow hockey and football. Unfortunately, I root for the Jets, which means I don’t do a lot of cheering.
What I would like to see more of in Thoroughbred Racing: I would like to see the sport jump to the next level and extend its arms to a broader audience. Maybe “dumb it down” to the average fan, at least until we get our feet wet. A deeper look into the jockeys, the horses, the work that it takes it to compete at that level.
What I would like to see less of in Thoroughbred Racing: Hard to say. With every sport you have a small fringe group of diehards that are unaccepting of change. It would be nice to have them understand that the sport they love so deeply will only expand through the fandom of “newbies.”
Three words that define what Thoroughbred racing means to me: Dramatic, intense and intimidating
First Thoroughbred track I ever attended was: Santa Anita
Favorite all-time Thoroughbred: Ha! I have no idea.
My personal best moment in the sport of Thoroughbred racing: Getting to sit down with Rosie Napravnik and pick her brain for a bit. Getting to talk with anyone at the top of their game is always a treat. When that person happens to be a woman in a male-dominated world: bonus.
Best racetrack food can be found at: Well, I ate solely at the NBC compound. And the catering has been top-notch each time.
My favorite jockey: The Rose Dog (AKA Rosie Napravnik)
My favorite trainer: Hard to dislike Shug. A man who smiles all the time, and it’s genuine? Hard to come by.
My Heroes: Cheese alert: my mom and dad. And the first person who figured out how to eat oysters.
Person in Thoroughbred racing I’d like to have dinner with: In a perfect world: the horses.
My philosophy on life: Never let them see you sweat … and eat breakfast for dinner.
Favorite quote or motto: Live long and prosper
Favorite animal other than a horse: Dogs!
Favorite non-Thoroughbred racing sports event I have attended: Wrestlemania. Does sports and entertainment
Favorite food: Sushi, pasta, Mexican
Favorite vacation spot: Italy!
Favorite city: New York
Favorite Musician/band: What’s music? I’m a sports-talk-radio junkie….
Favorite all-time movie(s): Too many to count. Godfather and Bull Durham are definitely on the list.
Favorite TV Show: “Family Guy” … for its mature content
Favorite hotel: Anything with soft robes
Websites I visit daily: terezowen.com - Think TMZ meets sports
What I drive: The local 1 train
Pet Peeve: Umbrellas too low on a crowded sidewalk and about 431 other rude behaviors
Which actor would play me in a movie: Gary Oldman
Alma Mater: UT-San Antonio
Favorite radio shows/channels: Local sports channels. WFAN in the morning.
Best Book I recently read: “The Interestings” about a group of friends who came up together in New York City
Favorite Dessert: Lemon ribbon pie from Josie’s in NYC
Favorite Drink: Red, red wine
What I like about my job: The variation from day to day
Favorite Tech gadget: Ha! I’m barely figuring out this iPhone
Twitter Handle: @michelledbeadle
People I follow on Twitter: many comedians, news sites, teams. But mostly comedians who say the things I wish I could say.
No. 1 Bucket List Item: Swim with the sharks ... and eat carbs after 7 p.m.
