How did you first get into horse racing? My parents were weekend players. I actually remember the first time at the racetrack. That memory was from Hollywood Park. It was the last race of the day. I was cheering my mom's $5 exacta box 2-11 (minimum exacta wager in the early 1970s). It came in 2-11 and the #2 was ridden by Donald Pierce. My memory is never that sharp, but that made a lasting impression.

How many times have you previously qualified for the DRF/NTRA NHC? I qualified one other time, 2009.

What is your best finish in a handicapping tournament, and what is your largest tournament payout? I finished first in a Derby Wars contest and have finished first a few times on

What wager created the largest payout for you? It was approximately seven years ago at Los Alamitos. I started with $30 and hit the early pick four on a $24 ticket and proceeded to hit each and every rolling pick three, double and late pick 4. It was basically a perfect night that may never happen again.

What is your most memorable horse racing experience? Well, the memory I shared earlier with my parents stands out, but I have a memory of Affirmed winning at Hollywood Park in the late 1970s. I remember trying to see the race because back in those days the racetracks were crowded with people. I can still hear parts of the race call from Harry Henson, "And it is Affirmed in front."

Do you have any interesting hobbies, experiences or past accomplishments that others might find unique or interesting? I enjoy tinkering with vintage Porsches. I have owned several circa 1950s and 60s, early 356 and 911/912 Porsches.

Does anyone else in your family share your enthusiasm as a horseplayer? Yes, both parents still enjoy going to the track, and mom can still take down a "signer" every now and then.

What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of? That I have many good friends. I still have friends that date back to the first grade and have made several friends through tournament play.

What would you do with the NHC grand prize if you won? I would probably contact Mr. Bill Baker with Barretts Sales on that Monday. :)
