ABRV - GAMBLING

America’s Best Racing brand ambassador Jose Contreras – who puts his picks out for the public regularly on his own blog www.losponies.com - will help DerbyJackpot players with his insight in a regular blog feature for ABR.

Each week, Jose will give out his “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a “Monkey Bet” (a win bet) on DerbyJackpot, as well as his Lonshot Play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a Monkey Bet or to take a shot with “The Granny” (a show bet, or top-three finish).

Jose also will lay out either a quick-hitting Granny Parlay or a Gonzo Bet. The Granny Parlay essentialy is a bet in which players will have an opportunity to place one Granny bet after another on a sequence of four or five races within an hour or so of each other, essentially letting it ride as they go "all in" search of a nice return on investment. The idea of the parlay is to steadily grow your bankroll until you have a sizeable stash of cash to let it ride on the final leg for a nice payout. The Gonzo Bet requires players to select the first two finishers in a given race in order, the same as a traditional exacta bet.

Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. It’s fun, it’s easy, and you can win cash. Open your account today.

Recap of Last Week

Saturday Santa Anita: The Best Bet and Longshot bet did not fire, both of them finished middle of the pack. One of our runners in the Gonzo was scratched. We had the winner but missed the second-place finisher.

Saturday Keeneland: The Best Bet (Lemon de Oro) led every step of the way and won at odds of 5-to-2. The Longshot (Noble Charlotte) scored and got third as the second-biggest price of the field. We missed the Gonzo; we had the winner and the third place finisher.

Saturday

Best Bet (Monkey Bet/Win Bet)

Keeneland, Race 2, 1:37 p.m. ET

#2 Bill of Rights: There are a couple of things that I like about this horse. He already won at this meet, he was claimed by a trainer that wins at 37% with new claims and he has won three of his last four starts. He might be able to take the lead and never look back.

Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)

Keeneland, Race 5, 3:13 p.m. ET

#4 Hawaakom: He was last seen in February when running fifth at the Fair Grounds and looks to be coming into this race fresh. He is adding blinkers and lasix (furosemide) for the first time for a trainer that has done well at this meet.

Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)

Keeneland, Race 6, 3:45 p.m. ET

#4 Kipling’s Joy: Was sent off as the favorite at Kentucky Downs in her last start, and two starts ago she finished third by a neck in a stakes race. She has a couple of workouts at Keeneland and looks to be familiar with her surroundings.

#5 Neat Package: If you throw out her dirt race, her record looks very good. She has a win and two seconds from three turf starts. She finished a solid second with this jockey in her last start at Kentucky Downs. Her win came on the turf at Saratoga.

#8 Praia: Tried tough Grade 1 company in her last start when finishing last. She has two seconds against Grade 3 company under this jockey. Her only win was here on the Keeneland turf at this same distance earlier in the year.

#9 Enchanting Lisa: She has plenty of room to improve and has shown talent in her three starts. She’s adding blinkers today and hails from the bloodlines of Wise Dan and Successful Dan. She was given some time off since Saratoga and looks to be ready to run a big race.

Sunday

Best Bet (Monkey Bet/Win Bet)

Santa Anita, Race 3, 5:00 p.m. ET

#6 The Magic Stone: She ran on the dirt for the first time in her last start and she ran a very improved race when finishing second at odds of 44-to-1. She set a very fast pace, dueled, and finished motr than a length clear of the third-place finisher. I expect more improvement today.

Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)

Santa Anita, Race 4, 5:30 p.m. ET

#5 Swift Eagle: He’s been given some time off since early September at Del Mar and shows some steady workouts this month. The last time he ran at Santa Anita, he led the field the entire way before finishing second by a head.

Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)

Santa Anita, Race 9, 8:00 p.m. ET

#4 Znelle: Ran a good third at Del Mar going seven furlongs when leading into the stretch and getting passed late. Today, he shortens back to six furlongs looks to have enough speed to take the lead or sit off the pace.

#6 Market Notes: Takes a small drop in class from $50,000 to $30,000 maiden claiming and retains the services of leading jockey Rafael Bejarano. He has a record of one second and two thirds in three career starts. Has shown some talent and has plenty of room to improve.

#8 Runaway Que: Was sent off at odds of 3-to-1 at this same level a few weeks ago when he made his debut. He broke okay, showed some speed and then threw in the towel. It was only his debut and his trainer is winning at a 25% clip with maidens making their second start.

#10 Harbaugh: He is taking a big class drop today. He was close to the pace in his debut but finished ninth at the end of the one-mile race. He has a fast workout since then and shortens back to six furlongs today. I expect improvement in his second start.
