ABRV - GAMBLING

America’s Best Racing brand ambassador Jose Contreras – who puts his picks out for the public regularly on his own blog www.losponies.com - will help DerbyJackpot players with his insight in a regular blog feature for ABR.

Each week, Jose will give out his “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a “Monkey Bet” (a win bet) on DerbyJackpot, as well as his Lonshot Play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a Monkey Bet or to take a shot with “The Granny” (a show bet, or top-three finish).

Jose also will lay out either a quick-hitting Granny Parlay or a Gonzo Bet. The Granny Parlay essentialy is a bet in which players will have an opportunity to place one Granny bet after another on a sequence of four or five races within an hour or so of each other, essentially letting it ride as they go "all in" search of a nice return on investment. The idea of the parlay is to steadily grow your bankroll until you have a sizeable stash of cash to let it ride on the final leg for a nice payout. The Gonzo Bet requires players to select the first two finishers in a given race in order, the same as a traditional exacta bet.

Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. It’s fun, it’s easy, and you can win cash. Open your account today.

Recap of Last Week

Saturday: Both the Best Bet & Longshot Bet scored.

Sunday: Best Bet scored.

Saturday

Best Best (Monkey Bet/Win Bet)

Belmont Park, Race 1, 1:05 p.m. ET

#6 Ithastobegeorge: This horse has improved in 2013 and looks to be getting better. He has two starts at Belmont and those include a win and a third-place finish, but what i like best about this runner is that he has shown that he can take the lead or close ground late. Seeing that jockey Javier Castellano sticks with him is another plus.

Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)

Barretts at Fairplex, Race 9, 7:20 p.m. ET

#3 Relentless Heat: This is a horse that has finished first, second or third in 10 of his 18 lifetime starts. I like his stalking style, he tends to race mid-pack and close ground at the end. He raced on this track at a similar level last year and missed the win by a nose. Having a start on this track is key and, given that there are a few speed horses in here, I think he will sit a great trip.

Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)

Barretts at Fairplex, Race 10, 7:45 p.m. ET

#1 City by the Bay: She is a speedy filly who looked very good winning her debut in Northern California. She looks to extend her record 2-for-2 today from the rail post. She might get some early pressure from a few others but I think if she breaks well and avoids trouble at the start she should be tough to beat.

#10 Perched: This filly is the one that I think has a chance to upset the field if City by the Bay gets tired late. She has shown some talent and if you ignore the last turf try, her race at Del Mar fits very well here. She will be making up ground late.

Sunday

Best Bet (Monkey Bet/Win Bet)

Barretts at Fairplex, Race 1, 4 p.m. ET

#4 Augsburg: He comes off a speedy maiden win at a similar distance across town at Los Alamitos Race Course. Today, he faces much tougher competition (which should help the odds) but I think he will be long gone with a clean start. The Los Alamitos speed holds well on this track and he arrives from good connections.

Longshot Bet (Granny Bet/Show Bet)

Belmont Park, Race 5, 3:09 p.m. ET

#6 Canela Rose: She was last seen running last in a field of 10 against much tougher at Saratoga after getting fractious in the post parade. An interesting note is that on that day she lured the services of John Velazquez, one of the top jockeys in that circuit, which leads me to believe that she was expected to run much better than she did. Today, she drops in class, gets back to the dirt, and has a speedy workout of the Belmont track. Worth a shot at a price.

Exacta Box (Gonzo Bet)

Belmont Park, Race 7, 4:13 p.m. ET

#4 Wholelottashakin: She was making up ground late but could not get to the winner in her last start. Today, she returns to the track of her most recent win, which is also where she has earned all of her three lifetime wins. It looks like she loves this track and can either sit a stalking trip or take the lead if she wants to.

#6 Inimitable Romanee: She is a tough horse. She has not finished worse than third in her last 11 turf starts. She likes to run and she likes the turf. Her style is more of a closer and it looks like she has been wanting a little more distance lately. Her jockey knows her well and she is definitely a top contender.

#8 Effie Trinket: This filly is the least experienced of the field (8 starts) but owns more wins (4) than most of them. Half of her wins have been on the turf and at this race track. She’s still improving and figures to be in the hunt once they turn into the stretch.
