This year's running of the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap is the quintessential battle between mares in form and those looking to regain former glory.

Looking for her second consecutive victory over the Hot Springs, Ark., track is Tiz Miz Sue, a daughter of Tiznow who excels at the 1 1/16-mile distance. Trained by Steve Hobby, the 6-year-old mare has done her best running at her home track and should get the pace she needs to run at turning for home.

Running a good race behind Tiz Miz Sue last out was Don't Tell Sophia, a versatile horse for course who does her best running on the lead but showed an ability to rate in her last effort.

One of the few new shooters to ship in for the Apple Blossom is Summer Applause. The precocious daughter of Harlan's Holiday should improve in her second start back off of a layoff and second time out for Chad Brown after taking the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap at Aqueduct handily in her last start.

This trio of ladies trying to get back to the winner's circle is all front-runners who excel at the distance. Grace Hall is getting the most class relief after losing to champion Royal Delta in her two most recent races; She's All In has to prove she can step up against the better females in the country; and On Fire Baby is back off a near-year layoff having run two of her best races at Oaklawn.

Molly Jo Rosen

Growing up halfway between Hollywood Park and Del Mar, Molly Jo Rosen spent more time at the "horse beach" than the sandy ones. One ride on a pony named Coco at 18 months old had her hooked, and she spent 15 years as a showjumper before a routine birthday trip to Del Mar came with the realization that racing was the life she wanted.

Since then, Molly Jo has traveled across the country working on the best backstretches, frontstretches and farms in the industry. She has held positions with TVG, Churchill Downs, Three Chimneys Farm, and Puglisi Racing, among others.

Now managing member of the Post Parade Racing ownership group, Molly Jo also runs 2yoSales.com (providing data to leading trainers on the juvenile sales), co-hosts the popular podcast Post Parade with The Filly and The Clocker, and can be heard Sundays on "The Fast Track" on Fox Sports 1340 am.

Molly Jo serves her blend of pony punditry at FocusedFilly.com.
