Eblouissante, a half-sister to Zenyatta who trended worldwide on Twitter after winning her debut by 4 1/4 lengths on Nov. 16, is set to make her second start on Dec. 15 at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Eblouissante will run in the fourth race of the day, a $48,000 optional claiming race for fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic Cushion Track surface. Four other females will contest the race, which is scheduled for 2:01 PST, with Eblouissante being one of two 3-year-olds in the field. Jockey Corey Nakatani, who was on the filly for her debut win will ride Eblouissante for trainer John Shirreffs and owner-breeder Eric Kronfeld.
The 3-year-old daughter of Bernardini is by the blue hen mare Vertigineux. In addition to being the dam (mother) of 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, Vertigineux also is the dam of Grade 1 winner Balance. Like Zenyatta, Eblouissante debuted late in her 3-year-old year but won at 1 1/16 miles instead of the 6 ½ furlongs Zenyatta debuted at. Both fillies were trained by Shirreffs with Zenyatta running for owners Jerry and Ann Moss.
Eblouissante will be breaking from post three with a weight assignment of 121 pounds. Except for fellow 3-year-old Toomanytomatoes, the rest of the field will be carrying 124 pounds in the race. The first post for Betfair Hollywood Park’s Saturday card is set for 12:30. The card is highlighted by the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity and Grade 3 Hollywood Turf Cup.
