Millionaire Coil, winner of the 2011 Haskell Invitational (gr. I) and 2012 Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes (gr. I), will stand the 2013 season at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, Calif., it was announced Dec. 28. The fee for the 4-year-old son of Point Given will be $5,000.
Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert to a 6-2-3 record from 13 starts, Coil earned $1,064,360 and counts the 2011 Affirmed Handicap (gr. III) among his scores for Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman, who will retain ownership of the colt.
In his final start, Coil finished third to Stay Thirsty in the Cigar Mile (gr. I) Nov. 24 at Aqueduct Racetrack.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to stand Coil," said Tom Hudson of Magali Farms. "I loved this horse as a racehorse. He is so versatile. He ran and won at multiple distances on multiple surfaces. His sire was a champion California racehorse.
"Coil has the pedigree, conformation, and race record to be a great sire. He is an exceptional individual and presents a great opportunity for California breeders."
Coil was bred in Florida by Glen Hill Farm out of the Theatrical mare Eversmile. Among his other stakes attempts, he was second in the 2012 Pat O'Brien (gr. II), second in the 2011 Swaps (gr. II), and third in the 2011 Goodwood (gr. I).
