Conduit captures BC Turf again
By Alan Shuback
Daily Racing Form, November 07, 2009
Conduit took down his second consecutive $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf title on Saturday, but not before Presious Passion nearly stole the race with an exceptional runaway, front-running effort.
Ryan Moore let Conduit dally at the back of the seven-runner field as Presious Passion, as is his wont, dashed to a 12-length lead after sprinting clear on the downhill early portion of the race. Conduit's Michael Stoute-trained stablemate Spanish Moon was closest to Presious Passion.
Conduit was moved a bit closer into fifth past the stands the first time, but Presious Passion maintained his huge advantage until appearing to shorten stride approaching the far turn.

| Race Comments: CONDUIT (IRE) settled outside a rival then three deep through the stretch the first time, chased alongside a foe on the backstretch, split horses leaving the second turn, was bumped and forced out some into the stretch, bid alongside the runner-up in the drive, gained the lead under urging in deep stretch and gamely prevailed. PRESIOUS PASSION sped to the early lead, opened up sizeable advantage off the rail, angled in nearing the second turn, fought back along the fence through the stretch and continued willingly to the wire. DAR RE MI (GB) angled in and chased inside, moved up on the second turn, came out and bumped with the winner into the stretch, continued toward the rail in the drive and bested the others. SPANISH MOON pulled his way along to chase the leader just off the rail then outside a rival, was three deep leaving the second turn, came out into the stretch and lacked the needed late kick. RED ROCKS (IRE) saved ground chasing the pace, came out in upper stretch and could not summon the necessary response. MONZANTE settled outside then alongside a rival, split horses leaving the second turn, came out some in the stretch and did not rally. TELLING chased inside then came off the rail, continued outside a rival on the backstretch and into the second turn, was three wide a quarter mile out, angled in some into the stretch and had little left for the drive. Rail on hill at zero. |
