LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Lou Brissie collared odds-on favorite Twelve Pack Shelley in the shadow of the wire and held off Boys At Tosconova to score a mild surprise in the Grade 3, $100,000 Kentucky Juvenile Stakes for 2-year-olds on Friday at Churchill Downs.
John Velazquez was aboard Lou Brissie ($9.40), who completed five furlongs on the fast main track in 57.80 seconds. Boys At Tosconova, a first-time starter, rallied for second, just outnodding Twelve Pack Shelley, who set fractions of 21.92 for the opening quarter-mile and 45.17 for a half-mile.

Race Comments: LOU BRISSIE angled three wide once in the turn when within striking distance, responded in the stretch and closed well to be clear. BOYS AT TOSCONOVA outrun early, stayed out in the five path around the turn and rallied willingly on the outside to be up for the place. TWELVE PACK SHELLY rushed to the lead from the outside, set the pace near the rail, responded willingly when challenged on the turn and held on gamely. WETZEL forwardly placed from the start, challenged three wide on the turn but tired in the drive. NINA FEVER forced the early pace off the inside and tired.
