  • Born: Nov. 9, 1966 in Verona, Mo.
  • Residence: La Grange, Ky.
  • Family: wife Janelle and children Katie and Chase
  • Education: Attended Southwest Missouri State University for a year
  • Racing Background: Grew up on a cattle ranch and showed Quarter Horses in Western pleasure classes, a discipline in which horse and rider are judged on rider position and horse obedience during a pattern of movements at the walk, trot, and lope before becoming a Quarter Horse jockey … While riding at race meetings with both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse races, Miller got to know people involved in the Thoroughbred industry and decided to switch because the Thoroughbred business tends to be more lucrative … One of his earliest jobs with Thoroughbreds was working for Nick and Jaqui de Meric, an Ocala, Fla. couple who specialize in selecting and training Thoroughbred yearlings to resell at public auctions
  • Racing Career: Miller first obtained his trainer’s license in 1995 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn. …Scored his first stakes victory with Great Notion on March 1, 2003 in the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park … Posted the richest victory of his career when Dominican won the G1 $750,000 Toyota Bluegrass Stakes at Keeneland in 2007 by a nose over eventual Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense … Miller had another outstanding 3-year-old that year in Sedgefield, who finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby while Dominican finished 11th … Both colts raced for Silverton Hill Farm for whom Miller is the private trainer … Rides many of the horses he trains, including Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf prospect King Ledley, who recently joined his stable after beginning his career in Ireland. In his last start, he finished third in the Goff Million Sprint at the Curragh in September ... Other recent stakes winners for Miller include Cliffy's Future and Driving Snow, the horse who beat superstar Sea the Stars on his 2-year-old debut when he was with Kevin Prendergast in Ireland. Driving Snow is currently sidelined.  
  • Breeding/Racing Operation: Has 15 horses in training at his Churchill Downs base … Headquartered at Palm Meadows training center in Boynton Beach, Fla. in the winter.
