 Biography and Highlights:  
  • Born: Dec. 28, 1962, in Renton, Wash.
  • Resident: Arcadia, Calif.
  • Racing background: Puhich hails from a large racing family. Uncle Ivan Puhich is a jockey agent in South California. Another uncle, Stan Puhich, was a longtime agent and tip-sheet publisher
  • A 1981 graduate of Renton High in Washington, Puhich became his career as a trainer in 1984 at Longacres. He raced horses at the Renton racetrack until the track closed in 1992
  • Trained at Emerald Downs from 1996 until 2000
  • Currently trains in Southern California
  • Recalled his victory in the Precisionist Stakes at Hollywood Park in 1996 with Stolen Gold as his most memorable win. It came on the day he buried his uncle Stan Puhich, on his uncle's birthday
  • Calls Big Paz, who ran until he was 11 years old, one of his all-time favorite horses
  • Trains for fellow Washington-residents Mike Pegram and Al and Sandee Kirkwood
  • Saddled the Kirkwood-owned Daros to an eighth-place finish in the 1992 Breeders' Cup Turf
  • Helped Eclipse Award-winning jockey Tyler Baze break into the sport. Baze worked horses for Puhich at Emerald Downs.
