Born: Oct. 30, 1938, Kingston, Jamaica … Resident: Miramar, Fla. … Family: wife Terry, sons Ralph, Gordon and Kirk (a fellow trainer), daughter Katherine … Racing Background: Born in Jamaica of Lebanese descent, Ziadie followed his grandfather Tewfik and uncles Millard and Victor into racing … Became a successful trainer in Jamaica, conditioning 1970 Jamaican Derby winner Royal Crest, before immigrating to South Florida in 1977 … Spent five years operating a restaurant and selling cars before returning to training at Calder Race Course in 1982 … Training Career: Captured three straight Calder training titles starting in 1990. Also tied for leading trainer at Calder's Tropical meet in 1999 … Inducted into Calder Hall of Fame in 2001 … Saddled Reggae Man to track-record seven consecutive wins at Calder in 1985 … Best horse trained was Sir Bear, who retired in 2003 with 10 graded stakes wins and earnings exceeding $2.5 million … Sir Bear scored in grade 1 stakes at three different tracks – Aqueduct (1998 Cigar Mile), Belmont (1999 Met Mile) and Gulfstream (2001 Gulfstream Park Handicap) …Win by Sir Bear in the 2000 Texas Mile caped a day in which Ziadie runners won both of Lone Star Park's features with Tahkodha Hills having won the Lone Star Derby in the prior race … In 2003, conditioned Trust N Luck to score in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Silver Wagon upset in the Hopeful Stakes in just his third career start … Ziadie-trained fillies Silk Concorde and Valid Forbes swept Calder's 2000 three-race Florida Stallion Stakes series … Other top runners have included Backatem, Constant Escort, Danger Ranger, Falconese, Hooting Star, Jennasietta, Migrating Moon and Royal Lad … Grade 1-placed Along the Sea, Ziadie's only Breeders' Cup starter, finished eighth in the 2005 Juvenile Fillies.
