Born: Apr. 26, 1966 in Ireland ... Resident: Blewbury, Oxfordshire, England ... Family: wife Susan, whom he met when she was employed as an exercise rider by D. Wayne Lukas and married in 1997. They have two sons, Nicholas and Lukas ... Racing Background: Had a spell working in Australia with the legendary Colin Hayes before serving four years in America with Lukas. Was assistant for seven months with the late Rodney Rash before returning to Europe to assist John Dunlop in England ... Dunlop recommended Butler when one of his owners, Erik Penser, was looking to set up a trainer at his purpose-built Churn Stable yard at Blewbury in late 1997 ... Training Career: Butler took out his license in January 1998 and has since seen his yard grow from an original 18 horses to the current strength of 97. The yard is one of the best equipped in Britain, with two huge barns, a lavish indoor school, a six-furlong Polytrack gallop and eight miles of 100-year-old grass gallops. Much to Penser's delight, Butler attracted 17 new owners, including Gary Tanaka, in less than a year. After notching only five victories in his first season, his tally increased to 23 winners in 1999 ... Through 2004, Butler had saddled a total of 261 winners in Britain, including a solitary group 1 success, the 1999 Coral Eclipse Stakes with Compton Admiral. His best season was 2003 when he saddled 63 winners ... Butler's other top-level success came in France, in the 2002 Prix Morny, courtesy of Elusive City ... In 2005 up until Oct. 9, he had won 26 races from 267 runners in Britain. His stable stars are a trio of older horses that have all won more than £400,000 in prize moneyCompton Bolter, Nayyir and Jack Sullivan.
