- Family: Single.
- Through Oct. 15, 2009, Castro ranked 18th in the nation with earnings of $6,819,477 and 176 winners from 948 starts. He won at a 19% clip, finishing in the money 50% of the time.
- Made his Breeders’ Cup debut in 2006 with two mounts … When he won the NetJets Breeders' Cup Mile with Miesque’s Approval he became the youngest jockey ever to win a Breeders' Cup race (19), but jockey Fernando Jara (18) eclipsed that record later in the day when he won the Breeders' Cup Classic on Invasor. Castro also finished ninth in the TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint aboard Pomeroy that year. In 2007 he rode Hystericalady to a runner-up finish in the Emirates Airlines Breeders' Cup Distaff, ran ninth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf aboard Your Round and finished 13th in the Mile with My Typhoon. He did not ride in the 2008 edition.
- Splits time between Florida, Kentucky, and New Jersey with agent Mike Gonzalez… Has maintained a second-place standing in the Monmouth Park colony four consecutive years, 2006-2009.
- Top mounts in 2009 included Gone Astray (G2 Pennsylvania Derby, G2 Ohio Derby), Quiet Harbor (G3 Violet Stakes), Dream Play (G2 Comley Stakes, Dearly Precious Stakes), and Custom for Carlos (G3 Jersey Shore Stakes).
- In spite of his youth, Castro has set or smashed several records during his brief time in the saddle. In 2009 he tied a Monmouth Park record by riding six winners June 21 including At the Disco in the $60,000 Bernie Dowd Handicap.In 2005 he set a national record with nine wins on a single race card (June 4) at Calder, and when he took the riding title at the Florida track that season, his 218 wins obliterated a Walter Guerra's 26-year-old record of 193 victories.
- Scored his 1,000th career victory Nov. 15, 2006 on Jermidy at Churchill Downs.
- Captured his first grade 1 victory on Pampered Princess in the 2005 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes at Keeneland.
- Despite missing more than three months of riding due to injuries, was named the Eclipse Award-winning apprentice of 2003.
- Made his U.S. debut on April 16, 2003 aboard Storm Prospect at Gulfstream Park.
- Attended jockey school in his native land of Panama at age 15, won his first race on Dec. 6, 2002 … rode 36 winners in Panama before coming to the United Stakes alone in April of 2003.
- Grew up on produce farm in Panama riding saddle horses and became interested in racing watching Cornelio Velasquez.
