  • Through Dec. 31, 2007, had 1,014 mounts with 128 wins and earnings of $6,189,495, to rank him in the top 35 jockeys by earnings in 2007.
  • Best Breeders’ Cup performance was in the 2003 Sprint, finishing third on Shake You Down.
  • Top mounts in 2007 include Daaher (G2 Jerome), Carmandia (G2 Bed o' Roses H), Indian Vale (G3 Next Move H), Utopia (G3 Westchester H) and Summer Doldrums (Whirlaway). 
  • Grew up near Delaware Park. His grandfather was legendary Mid-Atlantic trainer Buddy Raines, who had a major role in raising Luzzi and his brother, John. Raines, who is honored every year when Monmouth Park gives the Virgil "Buddy" Raines Award to an owner or trainer who has shown dedication to the sport of Thoroughbred racing through exemplary conduct, died in 2000.
  • Started riding in Maryland, where he won titles at Laurel Race Course (1990-91 fall/winter meets, 1992 summer meet) and Timonium.
  • Most meaningful win also was his first grade 1 win. He rode Timely Warning to victory in the 1991 Brooklyn Handicap for his grandfather, who was 81 at the time.
  • Eclipse Award winner as top apprentice jockey in 1989.
  • Moved to New York in 1994.
  • Won 2,000th race of his career at The Meadowlands on Sept. 13, 2000.
  • Honored with Mike Venezia Award in 2001 from the New York Racing Association.
  • Says his favorite horse is the New York-bred mare Critical Eye, who he rode to three stakes victories, including the 2001 G1 Hempstead Handicap. "She saved me a lot with those big wins," said Luzzi.
  • Says he doesn't have much time for hobbies, but does like to play golf when he gets a chance on dark days.
