Strengths: Fantastically consistent mare has shown ability for top placings no matter where she runs – coast to coast, big circuit to small stage. Very tractable runner can make her own trip from six to nine furlongs.
In The Genes: Bred in more of a sprint mold, by the late sire Anet (a son of Clever Trick), who earned more than $1 million while stretching his speed to win the Lone Star Derby. Dam Love And Happiness ran for Happy Ticket's owner and won 3 of 8 starts.
Status: Retired from racing to begin new career as a broodmare at Glencrest Farm in Kentucky. She will be bred to Distorted Humor and, with such parentage, the foal should be given a very clever name. She gave birth to a colt on Mar. 16, 2008 and will be bred to Empire Maker. She is the highest earning state-bred in history and thus honored at the Fair Grounds Race Course on Louisiana Champions Day. In addition, Fair Grounds announced that the race for state-bred 3-year-old fillies on March 3 has been re-named the Happy Ticket Stakes. Happy Ticket retired with 12 wins from 20 starts, including the 2005 G1 Ballerina at Saratoga, and earnings of $1,688,838.
Bet You Didn't Know: Had throat surgery to remove an entrapped epiglottis following her 2005 Distaff disaster.
