Strengths: Versatile performer has been a quality animal from 6-1/2 furlongs to 1-1/4 miles, having an almost identical career record around 1 turn as he does around 2. He has competed at the higher levels in California for four consecutive seasons with major graded efforts at ages 3, 4, 5 and 6. Surf Cat is able to race anywhere, pace-wise, which has been another feather to his versatility.
Weaknesses: Dominant Grade 2 performer on the West Coast, he has struggled to shine at the Grade 1 level and has raced exclusively on one circuit facing many of the same runners repeatedly over the years. Injuries stunted his 2006 and 2007 seasons to just 3 races each, and he appears to be a step slower than his glory days.
