Strengths: Deep closer has found a new home in turf sprints and is capable to bearing down late. One of the few horses who will appreciate the 6-1/2 furlong distance of the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint vs. the shorter turf dashes most often run around the country. Kept strong company lines early in his career vs. Barbaro, Kip Deville, Thorn Song et al, and showed his class to be second in the 2006 G1 Blue Grass. Versatile performer is a winner on dirt, turf and synthetic tracks.
Weaknesses: Not a specialist at any singular type of race, he will need a pace meltdown in order to showcase his stretch kick in a turf sprint. Almost twice as many runner-up finishes as wins lifetime, exemplifying the difficulties and dramas associated with his deep-closing style.
