Strengths: Preakness and Travers winner has an incredible cruising speed, looking like he's loping along – until you notice the time on the toteboard. Late bloomer was given time to develop and not thrown through the rigors of the entire Triple Crown slate, meaning he should remain fresh throughout the fall. He's also shown the ability to take his game on the road with no letdown.
Weaknesses: Challenges have been few and far between, and that's not his fault for crushing all comers. But, how he performs when looked in the eye – if it's possible – is TBD. No matter how good he has looked (stellar!), the test against older horses always is the ultimate exam.
In The Genes: Sire, A.P. Indy, won the 1992 Breeders' Cup Classic and Belmont Stakes. Dam, Cara Rafaela, was a G1 winner and runner-up in the '95 Juvenile Fillies. Hopefully, Bernardini will have a full sibling in 2008 after another match-up of A.P. Indy and Cara Rafaela in '07.
Status: 2006 Eclipse Award winner for Champion 3-Year-Old, he will begin a stud career at Darley at Jonabell in Lexington, Ky. After the 2008 breeding season in the Bluegrass, he will shuttle to Darley Australia for the Southern Hemisphere 2008 season.
Bet You Didn't Know: Super stallion A.P. Indy has produced only 1 Breeders' Cup winner – Tempera (2001 Juvenile Fillies).
