- Through Oct. 5, 2009, Gryder has won 42 races from 457 starts in three countries for purse earnings of $5,651,515. This would rank him about 24th on the North American earnings list, but his earnings include Dubai and Hong Kong so he is not officially ranked.
- Has ridden in the Breeders' Cup three times; finishing ninth in the 2008 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile aboard Well Armed; ninth in the 2007 Sprint aboard Smokey Stover and 10th in the 1998 Juvenile with Noteasybeingreen.
- Top mount to date in 2009 is Well Armed, winner of the $6 Million Dubai World Cup (UAE-GI). Well Armed was sidelined in early August. Other top mounts include Desert Code (G3 Daytona Handicap); Sweet August Moon, winner of the G3 Las Flores Hcp; Meteore (G2 La Jolla Hcp); Wild Promises (Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf) and Delta Storm, winner of the Robert Kerlan Memorial Handicap.
- Grew up in Southern California, not far from Santa Anita, and aspired to be a jockey from an early age ... His father and grandfather were racing fans and at age 13 began learning how to ride from former jockey Rudy Campas.
- Rode his first winner, Ragin Henry, on January 18, 1987 at Agua Caliente in Tijuana, Mexico ... Led the Hollywood Park fall meet as an apprentice in 1987 where he had his first grade 1 win in the Matriarch with Asteroid Field.
- Moved his tack East and made his mark in the Midwest and East Coast circuits before returning to Southern California in 2006 ... Holds leading rider titles at Aqueduct, Churchill Downs, Arlington Park and Hollywood Park.
- Career highlight occurred in 2009 when he rode Well Armed to a front-running, 14 length victory in the $6 Million Emirates Airline Dubai World Cup (UAE-GI), the richest race in the world on March 28. Gryder has ridden Well Armed in all his starts.
- Reached his 3,000th career win on March 7, 2007 aboard Pressthepace at Santa Anita.
- In 1992, won the $750,000 Super Derby aboard Senor Thomas. This ranked as his richest race won until 2009.
- Is a featured jockey on Animal Planet's popular series entitled "Jockeys," airing on Friday evenings. The show was increased to one hour per episode for this year, its second season.
- Often is a featured analyst on TVG, when his riding schedule permits. Has had television roles in "Dellaventura" and "The Sopranos."
- Rode in Hong Kong during June and early July, for the final week of the 2009 race meet to fill out a jockey colony depleted by injuries and suspensions.
- Involved in numerous charities for children. Serves on the board of Directors of The Giving Circle, which he helped found. The Giving Circle is a charity started to help Hurricane Katrina victims, which now identifies and helps communities nationwide.
- Hobbies include water sports, particularly surfing, kayaking and snorkeling.
- His agent is Tommy Ball.
