Strengths: Proven, top-class filly on two continents packs a stretch run that takes a backseat to no one. Does not need a pace set-up to produce her late run, and can be counted on every time.
Weaknesses: While she's run strong races against the boys in defeat, she has to prove she can beat the very best of them. Best races are when she can rally wide, with a tendency to make her own trouble if pinned on the fence.
In The Genes: From the little-known European sire Grape Tree Road, winner of the Grand Prix of France and fourth in the Juddmonte International. First foal out of Exciting Times, who never won on the track, but has since produced promising 3-year-old turfer Porto Santo.
Status: Retired in March, 2007, because of an ankle chip. Boarded in Kentucky at Bluewater Farm and Sales. Breeding plans are undecided.
Bet You Didn't Know: Gorella is one of only four three-year-old fillies ever to finish in the money in the Breeders' Cup Mile – joining winners Miesque, Ridgewood Pearl and Six Perfections.
