Strengths: Blinding speed paired with a better finishing kick than most presume. Crushes opponents by wide margins by opening up in the stretch, not the first half-mile – a rare trait for sprinters. His cruising speed is breakneck for most.
Weaknesses: Missed eight months, but was hardly relaxing on the beach – moving from Dubai and back while inactive. That has shortened his 2006 campaign, which will only include one start against older horses before the BC.
Status: Retired after a disappointing effort in the Sprint ... He stands at Darley, in Lexington, Ky. for $40,000. After the 2008 breeding season in the Bluegrass, he will shuttle to Darley Australia for the Southern Hemisphere 2008 season.
In The Genes: Sire, Hennessy, raced only one season in 1995, winning the G1 Hopeful and finishing second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Best known as a stallion for producing 2001 Juvenile winner Johannesburg, a champ on two continents. First stakes winner out of dam, Meadow Flyer.
Bet You Didn't Know: Henny Hughes is a third generation BC Juvenile runner-up. Grandsire Storm Cat was second in 1985, sire Hennessy was second in 1995 and Henny Hughes was second in 2005.
