Strengths: Proved his mettle by beating top European miler George Washington on the money in the Irish 2000 Guineas. Strong second-best to that one in the Queen Elizabeth II when both meeting older horses. Other group 1 success came in the '06 St. James' Palace.
Weaknesses: Inconsistent runner has bounced in and out of form, and has had some health questions with pulled muscles in his hips.
In The Genes: From the first crop of sire Mull of Kintyre, fourth in the 1999 Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Mull of Kintyre is out of a half-sister to the great Broad Brush. Third foal out of Resurgence, and her first stakes winner.
Status: Ninth in the 2006 Breeders' Cup Mile, Araafa is now a stallion at Plantation Stud, Newmarket, Eng. His first crop of foals arrived in 2008.
Bet You Didn't Know: Araafa was a 66-1 outsider in his first G1 race, the English 2000 Guineas.
