- Family: Sheikh Hamdan is the second son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, a previous Ruler of Dubai. He is Dubai’s Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance and Industry for the United Arab Emirates. His brother is Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and overseer of the Godolphin/Darley racing empire

- Professional Background: He and Sheik Mohammed control the state-owned Dubai Holding Co. and its many subsidiary companies which have wide ranging investments in hotels, apartment buildings, banking and finance, and healthcare facilities. He was tabbed by his late father after college to coordinate modernization projects in the U.A.E. and is the head of the country's delegation to the International Monetary Fund and OPEC
