- Education: Robert, graduated from the University of South Carolina; Janice, graduated from Columbia College
- Professional Background: Founded Cogen Technologies Inc., a power cogeneration business, and sold it to Enron in 1999 … Also in 1999, McNair's Houston NFL Holdings was granted the 32nd NFL franchise. The Houston Texans, now his principal business, began league play in 2002 and hosted the Super Bowl in 2004
- Breeding/Racing Operation:
In September 2008, the McNairs sold Stonerside Farm near Paris, Ky. as well as their training center in Aiken, S.C. to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Darley, and the operation became known as Darley at Stonerside ... The McNairs had previously sold Sheik Mohammed their Saratoga training center ... Bob McNair cited the time restraints of running his NFL operation as reason for the sale ... The McNairs had established their racing and breeding operation in 1994 with the goal of creating a competitive racing stable and top-quality broodmare band … Their racing and bloodstock manager was John Adger, who stayed on with Darley at Stonerside as an adviser ... Originally purchased 1,250 acres along the banks of Stoner Creek near Paris, Ky. in 1995. Adjacent to Claiborne Farm, Stonerside grew, over time, to more than 1,500 acres ... Among their first purchases was an interest in Strodes Creek, who finished second in the 1994 Kentucky Derby and third in the Belmont Stakes … In February 1997, the McNairs acquired the entire Elmendorf Farm broodmare band in a private transaction ... At the time of the sale to Darley, Stonerside owned about 250 horses, including 14 stallions. In addition, the McNairs had interests in more than 30 other stallions, including Storm Cat, Kingmambo and Ghostzapper. They retained those interests as well as one runner, Cowboy Cal, a two-time Grade 2 winner in '09 ... Homebreds made up more than half of the racing stable, and graded stakes-winning mares retired to the farm ... At the time of the sale, the broodmare band included champion Ajina, Argentine champion Slew of Reality, Grade 1 winners Tuzla, Dispute, Tout Charmant, Caffe Latte and Sis City, as well as Rings a Chime, dam of G1 winnerCountry Star; Divine Dixie, dam of Grade 1 winner Bandini; Zigember, dam of 2004 Blue Grass winner The Cliff's Edge, and stakes winner Minister's Melody, dam of Bob and John ... Their 1999 champion Chilukki, a prominent member of the broodmare band, died in 2007 due to complications from foaling. Her Ghostzapper foal was lost as well ... Since 1994, Stonerside has bred 66 stakes horses and co-bred another 20 ... Top horses bred include millionaire Congaree, third in the 2001 Kentucky Derby; $6.4-million yearling purchase Van Nistelrooy (a Group 2 winner and successful sire), 2008 champion juvenile Midshipman, winner of the 2008 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, Raven's Pass, winner of the 2008 Breeders' Cup Classic, and graded stakes winners Michita, Miss Coronado, Fast Cookie, Karen's Caper, Bob and John, Chatain, Sahara Heat and Texas Fever … Raced Raven's Pass in partnership with Sheikh Mohammed's wife, Princess Haya ... In partnership, Stonerside bred Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus and graded winner E Dubai … Ironically won their two Breeders' Cup races in 2008 after selling to Darley, when before, among their 10 previous Breeders' Cup starters as owners, the best finishes were seconds posted by Tout Charmant (2000 Filly & Mare Turf), Chilukki (1999 Juvenile Fillies) and Tuzla (1999 Mile). Homebred Congaree ran fourth in the 2003 Classic ... Concluded 2008 as Eclipse Award finalists and the second leading breeders by earnings with $8,521,912.
