Strengths: Danced all the major west coast dances for 2-year-olds in 2006 and earned solid checks every time, including a win at 1-1/16 miles in the Norfolk. Fantastic early speed if called upon, capable of 44-and-change opening half-miles.
Weaknesses: Bred top and bottom to be a sprinter, but did grind out an off-the-pace victory around two turns in the Norfolk. That race, however, lacked Great Hunter and saw several competitors suffer brutal traffic troubles.
In The Genes: Sire, Stormy Atlantic, has produced such top sprinters as Gators N Bears and Hot Storm, as well as graded stakes-winning route fillies She Says It Best and Atlantic Ocean. First foal out of the Carson City mare Wilshewed, who never won during her career.
Status: Retired in the fall of '07, Stormello will begin a career at stud at Vinery, near Lexington, Ky. His initial fee will be $15,000.
Bet You Didn't Know: Trainer Bill Currin already has won a million-dollar juvenile race during his career – the 2002 Delta Jackpot with Outta Here.
