Qualified for the Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf via a victory in the Diana on July 28, 2007 at Saratoga, one of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series races.
Strengths: You won't find a better-bred runner, and she's in the hands of Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, who is having one of the best years of his stellar career. She's kept the utmost quality company throughout her career on the grass.
Weaknesses: My Typhoon earned an automatic berth via the Breeders' Cup “Win and You're In” Challenge in the Filly & Mare Turf, but instead has been pre-entered in the Distaff and Mile. She was sixth in last year's F&M Turf. That defines her “in-between” status in that there's no solid division that best plays to her talents. Her recent efforts have been very sub-par for her (though she had excuses in both), signaling she may have lost some of her competitive spark, as older race mares are known to do.
In The Genes: Impeccably bred mare out of 1993 Arc de Triomphe-winning filly Urban Sea. She's also a daughter of 2000 Breeders' Cup Classic runner-up Giant's Causeway, who transferred his stellar turf form to dirt successfully. Half-sister to Epsom Derby winner Galileo.
Status: My Typhoon completed her distinguished career in the Mile and has been retired to Live Oak Stud in Ocala, Fla. She is booked to Kingmambo for 2008.
Bet You Didn't Know: Sold for $2,955,000 (US) at the 2002 Tattersalls December Sale, at the time a world-record record price for a filly weanling at auction.
