Silks and Media:
|
|
Strengths: Fantastic early speed with the ability to carry it up to 9 furlongs under the right conditions. Strong company lines underscore his class, facing the likes of Peace Rules, Funny Cide, Pico Central, Saint Liam and Dynever.
Weaknesses: Going into the Breeders' Cup Mile, did not start since New Year's Day and has raced only once on the turf, winning the G2 San Gabriel.
In The Genes: Sire Silver Deputy has produced the likes of BC Juvenile Fillies winner Silverbulletday and Queen's Plate winner Archer's Bay. Dam, Silveroo, won only once at age two, but is half-sister to $400,000-plus earner Formidable Lady, a standout on grass in California.
Status: Badge of Silver was to retire to stud in 2006 at Ramsey Farm for $12,500. Kept in training but not racing until his surprise third-place finish in the Mile, he instead went to stud at Airdrie, near Midway, Ky. in 2007.
Bet You Didn't Know: Brereton Jones, the proprietor of Airdrie Stud, was interested in getting the breeding rights for Badge of Silver; he bred his dam, Silveroo.
