Strengths: Won the world’s richest sprint race, the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen, showing his class on the international stage. Pure 6-furlong runner has posted 7 of his 9 lifetime wins at the Sprint distance.
Weaknesses: The rigors of travel and some minor setbacks in training have forced Kelly’s Landing to come into the Breeders’ Cup Sprint without a start since March 31. Does his best running down inside of other horses on the rail and post position draw and race strategy are important to his chances.
In The Genes: Sire, Patton, was a grade 3-winning sprinter in Florida who currently stands in Pennsylvania. Kelly's Landing is his most successful offspring. Dam, Best Game, was a listed stakes winner of more than $150,000.
Status: Remains in training for 2008, with a possible repeat try in the Dubai Golden Shaheen.
Bet You Didn’t Know: The longest layoff in Breeders’ Cup history for any race winner is the 133-day span between races for 1985 Sprint champion Precisionist. Kelly’s Landing attempted a 210-day layoff and was able to pick up a part of the purse, finishing fifth.
