- Has enjoyed a career best year in 2009 capped by victories in the Kentucky Derby, his second, aboard Mine That Bird and the Preakness Stakes aboard sensational filly Rachel Alexandra ... Missed capturing a personal Triple Crown when Mine That Bird finished third in the Belmont Stakes ... Borel turned heads when he gave up the mount on Mine That Bird and a chance at the Triple Crown to ride "Rachel" in the Preakness ... Mine That Bird finished second in the Preakness with Mike Smith aboard.
- Has been aboard three-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra, leading candidate for 2009 Horse of the Year, in all eight of her victories this year. These include a 20-length victory in the Kentucky Oaks, two G1 victories against three-year-old males - the Preakness Stakes and Haskell Invitational - and the G1Woodward Stakes against older males.
- Following the '09 Kentucky Derby, Borel became an instant celebrity, counting appearances on the Today Show, Jay Leno Show and David Letterman Show among his numerous media interviews.
- Battled for leading jockey with eventual winner Julien Leparoux throughout the 2009 spring/summer Churchill Downs meeting, finally coming in second with 61 wins to his rival's 62, but leading in earnings with $3,755,513 to Leparoux's $2,559,363.
- Rode Street Sense to a 10-length victory in the 2006 Breeders' Cup Juvenile for his first win on racing's Championship day. Street Sense was his only mount.

- Just days after the 2007 Derby, was invited to the White House for a white-tie dinner honoring Queen Elizabeth, who had attended her first Derby.

- Major races won include upset win with Rockamundo (108-1) in the 1993 Arkansas Derby and the 2006 Stephen Foster with Seek Gold at odds of 92-1. He also won the 1997 and 2001 editions of the Apple Blossom Handicap with Halo America and Gourmet Girl, respectively.
- Won the Cajun Jockey Challenge at Evangeline Downs on July 13, 2007. The event brings together top riders who got their start in Louisiana.

- In between his two Derby wins, he finished third in 2008 aboard longshot Dennis of Cork, a horse who almost missed the start until a last-minute defections allowed him to compete in the big dance.
