  • Born: June 19, 1966 in County Waterford, Ireland
  • Residence: Lexington, Ky.
  • Family: Wife, Catherine
  • Web site: www.kenneallyracing.com
  • Racing Background: Raised in Ireland where his family was involved with horses. His father had field hunters and his uncle was a jockey, who finished second in the 1964 Aintree Grand National aboard Purple Silk, and later was a trainer … His brother, Johnny Kenneally, operates Erinvale Thoroughbreds, one of the largest consignors in Australia ... Came to the United States in 1987 to work with sales yearlings at Pegasus Stud … Eventually went to work as an exercise rider for George (Rusty) Arnold at Keeneland in Lexington and Payson Park in Florida … Later worked for trainers Tom Skiffington and Niall O'Callaghan before becoming private trainer for Jack Kent Cooke's Elmendorf Farm
  • Racing Career: Although Aspire has just a single victory in his first three starts, the lightly raced colt was second in a pair of prestigious G1 races – the Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes and Champagne Stakes – to punch his ticket to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile ... Through Oct. 18, 2009, Kenneally’s most lucrative victory in 2009 was the G3 $200,000 Jersey Shore Stakes at Monmouth Park with Custom for Carlos on July 5 ... Opened public stable in 1997 … Captured the biggest win of his career in 2007 when Kelly's Landing scored in the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen under Frankie Dettori in March. In June of ’05, Kelly's Landing had broken the six-furlong track record at Churchill Downs, running the distance in 1:07.59 ... Now eight, Kelly’s Landing, who finished fifth in the 2007 TVG Breeders' Cup Sprint, has launched a new career as Kenneally’s lead pony at Churchill Downs … Kenneally also rides a Palomino named Gerry … Retired his other stable star, Bushfire, in 2007. Says Bushfire is special because "I picked her out for a modest price at a sale and she went on to be a top filly." Bushfire was purchased privately after she was listed as not sold on a final bid of $37,000 at the 2004 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October yearling sale. The filly was a finalist for an Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old filly in 2006 after three grade 1 victories in the Ashland, Acorn and Mother Goose … Bushfire and Kelly's Landing, his only Breeders' Cup starters to date, finished off the board in the Distaff and Sprint, respectively in 2006 … Other stakes winners include Mary Delaney, Belle of Perintown, Saratoga Sinner, Custom for Carlos, Ballymore Lady, Victorianna, Vicki Vallencourt and Catcominatcha ... Has 50 horses in his stable, which is based at Palm Meadows training facility in South Florida in the winter and in Kentucky and Saratoga the rest of the year … Key assistants are Lorina Andersen and Brendan Walsh … Plays racquetball and soccer in his spare time. … In an Aug. 30, 2009 Daily Racing Form article, Jack Lally, owner of Kelly’s Landing, had this to say about Kenneally: "I've gone back more than 20 years with Ed, and I've always been extremely respectful of his training and management skills. He's an excellent manager, he gets along with people, and he has very good help throughout his organization. He's a good taskmaster, he knows horses, and he works very, very hard. One time Ed told me, 'I think I'm smart enough to make more money doing something else, but when I pull my boots on at 4 a.m. knowing I'm headed to the track, I'm the happiest guy in the world.' I think that says a lot about him." In the same article, Ron Rashinski, owner of Bushfire and Custom for Carlos, said this: "There are a lot of good horsemen out there, but I really think Eddie's honesty and integrity in our dealings with him have been foremost in cementing our relationship with him. We're not horsemen, so we rely on outside people. When you trust people the way we do Eddie, you feel right about being in this business."  ... Through Oct. 18, 2009, Kenneally has won 59 races from 310 starters and his runners have earned $2,354,963.
