Strengths: Solid early sprint speed to run the “route” speed of their feet. Championship pedigree to be a factor at age two.
Status: Broke both sesamoids in his left front leg running in the Phoenix, a Breeders' Cup prep race. It was a career-ending injury, but he will have a stud career at Hurricane Hall, near Lexington, in 2008.
In The Genes: Out of first crop of 2001 Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion Johannesburg. Third foal out of St. Michele, who failed to win during her brief career.
Bet You Didn't Know: Teufelsberg is German for “devil's mountain.” The horse gets his name from his dam, St. Michele, who is named for the French mountain town by the same name. His dam is a daughter of Devil's Bag; hence, Devil's Mountain or Teufelsberg.
