- Education: Graduated from Yale University and Harvard Business School
- Professional Background: Chairman and CEO of various companies including MacMillan Inc. Presently involved with personal business interests and investments including breeding and racing thoroughbred horses
- Racing Background: His father, the late Thomas Mellon Evans, bred champion Pleasant Colony and owned Buckland Farm … Member of The Jockey Club
- Racing Career: In 2009, Evans’ stable is led by Quality Road, one of the favorites for the 2009 Kentucky Derby until a quarter crack prevented him from running in any of the Triple Crown races ... Quality Road won the Florida Derby in track-record time and the Fountain of Youth before the injury, then returned in August to take the 6 ½-furlong Amsterdam at Saratoga, again setting a track record in the process. Trained by Jimmy Jerkens in the spring, Quality Road, Grade 1-placed Casanova Move, and four other horses were transferred by Evans to Todd Pletcher and Kiaran McLaughlin in June ’09. ... Evans' other Breeders’ Cup candidate is Nite Light, who earned a guaranteed spot in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon by winning the Turfway Park Fall Championship, part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” series ... Nite Light, who was second in the ’09 Brooklyn Handicap, won the 2007 Gallant Fox as a 3-year-old ... Another highlight of 2009 was when his Cat Moves and Light Green finished first and second in the Grade I Prioress Stake ... Evans has campaigned many stakes winners, including Gygistar, winner of the 2002 Riva Ridge, Dwyer and King’s Bishop and two runnings of the Westchester Handicap in 2004 and 2005 and Personal Ensign winner Summer Colony ... Other stakes-winning horses he has bred and raced include Tap Day, Misty Galore, Gold Mover, Dismasted, Cat’s At Home, Christmas Kid, Raging Fever, With Ability, Possible Mate and Minstrella ... Presented with the Ogden Phipps Award as the outstanding breeder by the New York Turf Writers Association in 2002. The award was shared with the Phipps family ... - Breeding/Racing Operation: Evans breeds approximately 80 mares and races about one half of the foals. He has bred more than 100 stakes winners . . . His 3,000 acre Spring Hill Farm in Virginia is one hour west of Washington, D.C., and is the largest breeding farm in Virginia ... Among the 100 stakes winners bred at Spring Hill Farm by Evans is the champion Saint Liam, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Horse of the Year honors in 2005 ...
