 Silks and Media:

Strengths: A pure route runner, he excels at the Classic distance, winning elite races like the Pacific Classic and Hawthorne Gold Cup at 10 panels, and the Pimlico Special at 1-3/16 miles. Those races proven he can handle nearly all surfaces, dirt or all-weather. Has a proven ability to ship around the country and bring his top performances.

Weaknesses: Since a trip to Japan last fall, does not appear as brilliant as he was in 2007, winning just one of his first seven starts this year. No match for elite speed horses like Commentator and Mast Track in summer showdowns, indicating he may need a bit of pace help to produce his best finish.

In The Genes: Son of outstanding grass runner and turf sire Kingmambo, who also had some main track success as the producer of Belmont Stakes winner Lemon Drop Kid (fifth and sixth in his two BC Classic tries). Student Council is half-brother to Grade Point, winner of the Grade 3 Risen Star on dirt.

Bet You Didn’t Know: Student Council is a paternal grandson of the legendary two-time Breeders’ Cup Mile-winning mare Miesque.
