- Residence: Louisville, Ky. and New Orleans, La.
- Family: wife, Yvette; sons, Wesley and Cole
- Racing Background: At age 10, Stewart's grandfather gave him a horse, which he then trained and rode in match races … As a teenager, he began working as an exercise rider for trainer Connie Tassistro at the Fair Grounds ... Later, supplemented his income as a valet in the jockeys’ quarters on racing afternoons
- Racing Career: Stewart's stable star in 2009 has been Grade 1 winner Macho Again, who counts this year's G1 Stephen Foster Handicap and G2 New Orleans Handicap among his victories and is a leader in the older male division. The 4-year-old gray/roan colt, owned by West Point Thoroughbreds, finished a close second in the G1 Woodward Stakes behind 3-year-old filly Rachel Alexandra, who first defeated males in this year's G1 Preakness Stakes. Macho Again finished second in the 2008 Preakness. Stewart also won this year's Tin Man Stakes at Arlington Park with veteran multiple graded stakes winner Silverfoot, who has competed in the Breeders' Cup Turf on several occasions ... Stewart won the 2001 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (now Ladies' Classic) with Unbridled Elaine at odds of 12.30-1 for owner Roger Devenport … Another landmark moment in his career was when Lemons Forever rallied from last place to win the G1 Kentucky Oaks in 2006 at odds of nearly 50-1. She finished fifth in the Breeders' Cup Distaff later that year ... Also has trained such stakes winners as Dollar Bill, Clock Stopper, Nasty Storm, Rod and Staff, Molto Vita, Color of Smoke, Sweet Nanette, Storm Surge, Kazoo, Saintly Look, and Kimberlite Pipe. The first three named also competed in various Breeders' Cup races for Stewart … He typically stables in Kentucky and at Fair Grounds with a total of 40 horses ... Obtained his trainer’s license in 1985 and scored his first victory that year with his own horse, End Display, at Fair Grounds … His life soon took a dramatic turn when he was hired as exercise rider and barn foreman by Randy Bradshaw, who handled the D. Wayne Lukas string at the New Orleans oval … Later, he worked under another Lukas protégé, Mark Hennig, and when Hennig went out on his own, Stewart succeeded him as head of Lukas’ Kentucky division … He spent 11 years in the Lukas organization, saying, “Wherever he raced, I went. There were lots of great horses and great people and fun times. But also there was a lot of work. Nobody gave me anything. I had to work my way up from the bottom” … Stewart established his own stable with 12 horses in 1997. He recalls that when he went out on his own, Lukas gave him a pony, a saddle, and his blessing … First stakes win came with Rod and Staff in Turfway Park’s Prairie Bayou Stakes in December 1997 … In 1999, he won the G2 Louisiana Derby with Kimberlite Pipe, who then went on to finish sixth in the G1 Kentucky Derby, beaten less than three lengths … Dollar Bill, who won the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes in 2000, finished 15th in the Kentucky Derby the following spring … Leading trainer at Keeneland’s spring meet in 2000 … He co-owned graded stakes winner Nasty Storm with former University of Louisville basketball coach Denny Crum … Stewart and members of his family were victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A home owned by Dallas and his wife in New Orleans was damaged heavily by floodwaters but is now refurbished ... Through Sept. 14, 2009, the Stewart stable had 16 winners from 153 starters and earnings of $1,607,384 on the year.
