- Born: Guyana in South America
- Age: 44 years old
- Emigrated to Canada on Oct. 25, 1975
- Family: wife Daniela and daughter, April
- Grew up in a racing family in Guyana, where his father was a trainer and his brother was a jockey. His brother, Newman, now gallops full time for him
- Originally studied fashion design in Canada before following in his father's footsteps 10 years ago
- Began training at Woodbine five years ago and for Bruno Schickedanz four years ago
- Currently has 34 horses at the racetrack, including 13 for Schickedanz
- Was the leading training in Canada by wins in 2000
- Previously trained Sovereign Award winner One Way Love, champion older horse and champion sprinter in 2000
- Wake At Noon likely has the Sovereign Award wrapped up this year for champion sprinter
- "I hope he can get in the Breeders' Cup," Katryan said of Wake At Noon. "He's the best horse I've trained." He described Bruno Schickedanz as an owner who understands the racing business. "I love to get up in the morning and get to the track," he said of his profession.
