- Residence: Louisville, Ky.
- Family: wife, Terri, and sons, Steve, Scott and Lance ... Steve is also a successful Midwest trainer, working with Bernie before going out on his own in 2001 ... Scott is a blacksmith who works on the Flint stable runners and others
- Education: Graduate of Loyola University and the New Orleans Police Academy
- Professional Background: Former detective with the New Orleans Police Department for 16 years; he worked in vice, narcotics, homicide and headed the robbery-burglary division
- Racing Background: Flint retired from the police force in 1976 to devote his attention full time to training horses. He pulled double duty with Thoroughbreds from 1969-76, and trained Quarter Horses in his early 20s while in school
- Racing Career: Won his first race in 1969 at Fair Grounds in his native New Orleans … Tallied his first stakes win in 1976 with Pontalba … Scored his first major stakes win (as owner and trainer) in the national spotlight when He Is A Great Deal upset eventual Kentucky Derby winner Swale in the 1984 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland … Having trained more than 3,000 winners in his career, has been leading trainer at no less than nine different tracks in his career – Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Oaklawn Park, Hoosier Park, Turfway Park, Ellis Park, Canterbury, Sportsman’s Park and Balmoral. (Won his 3,000th race on Feb. 25, 2006, at Oaklawn with More Than Pretty) … Dominating trainer at Turfway Park in Northern Kentucky, winning a record 20 leading trainer titles … Is the recipient of six consecutive awards (1998-2003) from the Kentucky Thoroughbred Media – the award goes to the trainer with the most wins in Kentucky the previous year ... Captured his first grade 1 race in 2001 with Outofthebox in the Super Derby … Ranked 22nd nationally by wins in 2002 (with 119 winners) and 2003 (with 128) and 24th in 2004 (with 124 victories) … Best horses trained include graded stakes winners Swept Away, Hurricane Bertie, Hidden Assets and Thunder Bertie … Hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs Sept. 5, 2004 and spent four days in intensive care unit of Louisville, Ky.’s Baptist East Hospital ... Notched his fourth victory in River Downs’ Bassinet Stakes in '04 when finishing one-two with Ima Dixie Girl and Runway Model … Through Oct. 8, the Flint Stable had won 62 of 326 races this year for combined earnings of $1,680,146 … Has had three previous starters in the Breeders’ Cup – Dr. Bizzare ran sixth in the 1988 Juvenile, Thunder Bertie seventh in the 2000 Juvenile Fillies and Runway Model third in the 2004 Juvenile Fillies ... Top runners in 2006 are Officer Rocket, dead heat winner with Got the Last Laugh of the Arlington-Washington Futurity, grade 1-placed Unbridled Express and Cohiba Miss, winner of the Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies
