- Racing Background:
Father was a Harrisburg policeman who once shared a hospital room with a horse trainer ... When he got out of the hospital, he bought a horse. At the time, Scott was 12 years old and began walking hots - Racing Career: Began training steadily in 1991 with one horse at Penn National. Within 10 years he ran one of the most prolific stables in the country with operations across the Mid-Atlantic from New York to Delaware ... Has won dozens of training titles at Penn National, Philadelphia Park, Delaware Park, Pimlico and Laurel Park ... Barn largely built on claiming horses, but began to take on stakes caliber runners earlier this decade, highlighted by 2002 when Thunderello finished second in the Breeders' Cup Sprint ... That runner was one of six stakes winners in the stable that season ... Lake hit the board the next year in the Breeders' Cup Sprint when Shake You Down finished third ... He also trained General George Handicap winner My Cousin Matt prior to that horse finishing third in the 2004 Breeders' Cup Sprint for trainer Jeff Mullins ... Lake was an Eclipse Award finalist in 2000 and 2001 when he led the nation in wins. He also was leading trainer nationally in 2003 and 2006 and has finished first or second in wins every year since 2000. He gained his 4,000th winner on Oct. 31, 2007 when Hickory Trick won at Penn National ... Pared his stable somewhat in 2007-08 by leaving New York and reduced his head count to around 130 runners ... His best runner in 2008 has been Can-G2 Nearctic winner True to Tradition, among the early favorites for the inaugural Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. True to Tradition also won Laurel Park's Turf Monster Stakes ... Through October 12, 2008, Lake was ranked sixth in North America with $7,827,715 in purse earnings. He was second behind Steve Asmussen with 348 winners from 1,597 starters.
