Strengths: Fleet speedster can put herself into the race at both sprint and route distances, getting her brilliance from sire Tiznow and dam sire In Excess. Versatile filly is a graded stakes winner on both natural dirt and Polytrack. Trainer Baker appears to have her peaking in the fall just as she did last season.
Weaknesses: Seldom ventures beyond 1-1/16 miles and was no match as a sophomore for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff field, setting the pace at Monmouth and wilting. Did handle fellow 3-year-old Octave last year, but has yet to beat a truly top-class older mare since venturing into these waters.
In the Genes: Her sire, Tiznow, is the only horse in the history of the Breeders’ Cup to win the Classic twice (’00 and ‘01). Controlled, Bear Now’s stakes-winning dam, won five of seven career starts, banking $325,248 in the process.
Bet You Didn’t Know: The only Canadian-based winner in the 23-year history of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff is Dance Smartly (’91). Ashado used a win in the Cotillion as a springboard to victory in the 2004 Distaff.
