 Silks and Media:

Strengths: Bred in Argentina, but raced initially in South Africa, this gal won three times from seven starts on foreign soil, placing in a pair of group events along the way. Imported to the U.S. after half-interest of her was purchased by Team Valor, she dashed on turf in her first two stateside starts, posting a win and a second in a pair of minor stakes. In her first try over traditional dirt, she posted a game, press-and-pounce victory in the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom Handicap at Belmont Park.

Weaknesses: Nine of her 10 career starts have come on turf, and in her Gallant Bloom victory, she was the beneficiary of an absolutely perfect trip. Has yet to tackle the cream of this crop, and how she will respond if a little dirt gets kicked in her face remains a mystery.

In the Genes: Her father, Mutakddim, was a decent racehorse, but he’s been a much better stallion. Graded stakes-placed in England, he earned $126,174 in an 18-race career, but has already sired five runners who banked over $500,000, including $1.1 million earner Lady Tak, who happens to be his only previous Breeders’ Cup representative (seventh in the ’03 Distaff). Her Argentine-bred mother Jollie Fille is a sibling to two stakes winners and a half-sister to the dam of four stakes winners, including Group 1 victress Jolly.

Bet You Didn’t Know: Argentine-breds have raced in the Breeders’ Cup 13 times, winning four – Bayakoa (’89 and ’90 Distaff), Paseana (’92 Distaff) and Invasor (’06 Classic).
