Qualified for the Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile via a victory in the Champagne Stakes on October 6, 2007 at Belmont Park, one of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series races.

Strengths: When he gets a clean break and goes right to the front, he's as dangerous as they come.

In the Genes: His sire, Cherokee Run, won the ’94 Breeders’ Cup Sprint and banked over $1.5 million in his career. In ’07, Cherokee Run rates as the fifth-leading Juvenile sire, and the No. 18-leading stallion overall. He’s been represented by four Breeders’ Cup starters, all in Juvenile races, and his Chilukki (’99 Juvenile Fillies) and Kafwain (’02 Juvenile) ran second in their respective races. War Pass’ dam, Vue, also produced G1-winning 2-year-old Oath, heroine of Saratoga’s Spinaway.

Status: Tagged the early favorite for the Kentucky Derby by virtue of his Breeders' Cup win and Eclipse Award as outstanding 2-year-old of 2007, War Pass will have an extended rest, after which he'll prepare for the Triple Crown series from Zito's Churchill Downs stable. In 2007, War Pass was ranked 10th on the list for top horses by earnings with $1,397,400 from his four starts. Two weeks after a runner-up finish in the Wood Memorial, his final Derby prep, X-rays had revealed a small fracture in the sesamoid in the colt’s left front ankle that took him out of Derby consideration. At the conclusion of his racing career, he will stand stud at Lane's End Farm, near Versailles, Ky.
