Status: Not an original Triple Crown nomination, his owners have paid the $6,000 late fee to make him eligible. That move paid off as Recapturetheglory ran fifth in the Kentucky Derby, earning $60,000 of the $2 million purse. The connections declared that the son of Cherokee Run would make a run in the Preakness, but was taken out of consideration with a fever. Roussel is considering the $175,000-added G3 Northern Dancer Stakes on June 14 at Churchill Downs for the Cherokee Run colt.
Bet You Didn't Know: His owner/trainer, Louis Roussel, named Recapturetheglory in honor of Risen Star's 1988 campaign in which he was third in the Kentucky Derby but went on to take the second two legs, the Preakness and Belmont, of the Triple Crown.
