  • Residence: Davie, Fla.

  • Racing Background: Grew up on a farm in the Chicago suburbs and became acquainted with horses through his family’s livery stock
  • Racing Career: Started his career as a jockey at Arlington Park in 1976, winning with his first mount Scary Mary … Quickly outgrew riding and took out first trainer's license at age 17 … Worked as an assistant trainer in Chicago to Bernie Flint and Christine Janks before coming to Florida in mid-1990s ... Began Florida training career in 1998 with encouragement from Dr. Donald Frazier, who raced as Pyrite Stables; he trained multiple stakes winner Tour the Hive for that outfit … Said his best horse to date is Forty One Carats, winner of the Indiana Derby and Pegasus Handicap. Forty One Carats set a still-standing Calder six-furlong track record (1:08.95) winning the 2000 Smile Sprint Handicap. He earned $828,843 in his four-year campaign … Captured consecutive editions of Calder’s Memorial Day Handicap in 2004 and ’05 with Twilight Road … Has managed the career of Lord Robyn, whose biggest wins came in 2005 Tropical Park Derby and 2006 Blazing Sword Stakes … Captured the Calder’s $250,000 Distaff Turf Sprint Championship with Flying Circle … Fawkes also maintains a 12-stall barn next to his house where he cares for short-term layup runners for himself and other trainers … Based primarily at Calder, Fawkes operated a small division at BelmontBelmont string included Take D’Tour. In 2007, that 5-year-old reached the million dollar plateau when she became just the third mare in history to win consecutive editions of the G1 Ogden Phipps Handicap (until 2002 the Hempstead Handicap) … Fawkes has never had a Breeders' Cup entrant, although Take D’Tour was pointing to the 2006 Distaff but missed the race with an illness. Rebounded to capture a pair of rich state bred races, the Elmer Heubeck Distaff (part of the Florida Millions) and the Sunshine Millions Distaff, in late 2006 and early ‘07
