Silks and Media:

Strengths: Visually dominant winner of the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington, accomplished in a time that was approximately two lengths faster than the same-day Arlington Million. That’s heady stuff for a 3-year-old who appears to have a high ceiling for world-class trainer Dermot Weld. Addition of blinkers and Lasix in his American debut could have been part of the reason for his success. Sired by Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Theatrical, he has the genes to be a star stateside.

Weaknesses: He’s never faced older horses and was well-beaten and lightly regarded in this summer’s Irish Derby. Reasonable to question just whom he beat in the Secretariat, and he will be asked to make his second intercontinental journey of the year for the Turf. Arlington’s expansive, European-style turf course could also be more to his liking than the tight trip at Oak Tree at Santa Anita.
